SUMMIT DESCRIPTIONS

Panel 1: Impact Investing and New England

Over the past five years, impact investments have grown from an idealistic venture to a new, high-value asset class. By leveraging the strengths of traditional finance with the goals and vision of the public and nonprofit sectors, impact investing has been able to allocate new sources of capital towards projects that put equal emphasis on generating social, environmental and economic returns. This panel will focus on how the impact investing sector has grown over the past half-decade and where it is expected to go over the next decade with a special emphasis on the role the sector plays in New England.

Panel 2: Different Perspectives: What is a Career in Sustainability?

There are multiple opportunities to launch a career in sustainability but few come with the title Chief Sustainability Officer. Whether it is working at a Fortune 500 or joining a start-up, each position has the potential to act as a change agent in the organization and surrounding community. This panel will focus on what different careers in sustainability look like, from the day-to-day to the long-term challenges and benefits of leading a high impact career.

Panel 3: Achieving Impact Across the Public, Private and Nonprofit Sectors

Massachusetts is a global leader in multiple high impact sectors, including: life sciences, clean tech, education delivery, and many more. To be a leader in these sections takes initiative and broad cooperation among the private, public and nonprofit sectors. This panel will focus on how collaboration among these sectors is developed and the challenges in translating vision into achievable goals between the different sectors.

Featured Summit Workshop: How to Pitch Yourself for an Impact Career

Co-founder of Net Impact, Dr. Mark Albion, will lead a workshop on how students and professionals can position themselves to launch impact careers.

About Dr. Mark Albion: More Than Money Careers LLC Co-Founder & Managing Partner Dr. Mark Albion is a former Harvard Business School professor who has co-founded six organizations, including Net Impact. Most recently, he served in the Office of the President at Babson College, helping to integrate social values into the college. Mark has made over 600 visits to business schools on five continents to discuss purposeful careers, for which Business Week called him “the savior of b-school souls.” A New York Times Best Selling author, Mark has written seven books and over 200 articles on responsible career decision making. Mark received his A.B., his joint MA/MBA, as well as his joint DBA/PhD from Harvard University.
